Practical advice, local laws, and real suburban experience — from our NJ backyard to yours.

Start Here NJ Chicken Laws

Thinking about getting chickens? Already have them and wondering if you’re doing it right?
We’ve raised backyard chickens in a New Jersey neighborhood through summer heat, winter snow, predators, and township questions. This site shares what actually works here — not generic farm advice.

Why We Built This Site

We started raising backyard chickens in New Jersey last March (2025). Like most homeowners, we had a lot of questions:

  • Are chickens legal in our town?
  • Will they smell?
  • Will neighbors complain?
  • How do they survive a real NJ winter?
  • What predators should we expect?

The answers weren’t always easy to find — especially specific to New Jersey. So we decided to document everything.

This isn’t a farming blog.
It’s a practical guide for normal suburban homeowners who want fresh eggs without causing problems.
